Champagne glasses made from biodegradable resin
"This champagne glass is actually made from a biodegradable resin derived from a plant called PLA (polylactic acid).
With a thin, delicate glass of 0.65mm thick, it is spoken by Yoda Hozumi, president and CEO of Nissei Plastics Industry.
PLA is a plant-derived resin made from sugar cane, corn, etc., and is biodegradable and can be returned naturally because it is degraded by the action of microorganisms. Environmental conservation has become a globally important issue, and while efforts to decarbonize are particularly important, this material is attracting attention, but it is also very difficult to mold compared to ordinary oil-derived resins. The model "N-PLAjet" which implements the PLA-specific injection molding system developed by Nissei Plastics Industry has been realized by thin and beautiful biodegradable resin molding.

Development had a lot of hard work. Plant-derived resins have a poor flow, making them difficult to fill the mold, and temperature control is difficult because they shrink rapidly, and if the timing is wrong, it will not be possible to remove the product from the mold. And strength has been a long-standing challenge.
"The research and development started with the idea that we could not make something like this. N-PLAjet has a condensed technology that we have accumulated, including the technology of uniformly pouring resin, the technology of mixing ultra-fine foamed air into the resin and quickly pouring it in, the technology of controlling the temperature and removing the product neatly from the mold," Yoda reveals his confidence.
